You don’t have to be engaged to have a reason to document your relationship.

You don’t need a proposal, a wedding date, or another major milestone waiting around the corner.

Sometimes, simply celebrating another year together is reason enough.

For their two-year dating anniversary, Camille, Jacob, and I spent the evening exploring one of the most unique ranch properties in Texas, the Y.O. Ranch Headquarters; complete with an exotic giraffe, a rustic atrium overflowing with plants, golden hour across the property, and longhorns wandering through the fields as the sun went down.

It felt equal parts romantic, adventurous, and completely unforgettable.

Starting the Session With a Giraffe

There are definitely worse ways to celebrate two years together than hanging out with a giraffe.

We started their session exploring the ranch, where one of the property’s exotic residents gave us a backdrop that was anything but ordinary.

Experiences like this are some of my favorite ways to photograph couples because there’s naturally something happening beyond simply standing in front of a camera.

You’re exploring.

You’re laughing.

You’re reacting to what’s happening around you.

And somewhere in between all of that, I get to photograph the little interactions that make your relationship feel like yours.

Inside the Plant-Filled Atrium

After spending some time outside, we moved into a rustic atrium tucked away on the property.

The space was filled with greenery, earthy textures, and plants spilling into nearly every corner.

It gave us an entirely different feeling from the open landscape outside. Quieter, moodier, and a little more intimate.

I love having variety like this during a session.

One location can give us photographs that feel playful and adventurous, then a few minutes later create something much softer and more editorial.

The goal is never for your gallery to feel like one hundred versions of the same photograph.

I want it to feel like the evening actually unfolded.

Dancing in a Field With Longhorns

We ended the session in an open field as the sun began disappearing behind the horizon.

Longhorns grazed nearby while the two of them danced together in the middle of the pasture.

It was simple, a little spontaneous, and easily one of my favorite moments from the evening.

There’s something about those last few minutes of a session when the light gets softer and everything seems to slow down.

No complicated posing.

No pressure to perform for the camera.

Just two people celebrating their 2 year dating anniversary together while the sun went down behind them.

It was pretty hard to beat.

You Don’t Have to Wait for the Next Milestone

One of the biggest reasons I love sessions like this is because they’re a reminder that your relationship deserves to be documented before the wedding chapter ever begins.

Engagement photographs are wonderful.

Wedding photographs are incredibly important.

But the seasons before those milestones matter too.

Maybe you’ve been dating for one year. Maybe two. Maybe five.

Maybe you simply realized the most recent photographs you have together are phone pictures and selfies from the last few years.

You don’t need to wait until someone puts a ring on a finger to celebrate what you’ve built together.

There’s something really special about being able to look back later and remember exactly who you were during this season of your relationship.

Celebrate the Season You’re In

Your couples session can be as simple or adventurous as you want it to be.

We can wander through the Texas Hill Country at sunset, revisit somewhere meaningful to your relationship, grab your favorite drinks and make a date night out of it, or find somewhere completely unexpected to explore together.

Apparently, giraffes and longhorns are fair game too.
